One Thing I've Learned...
Students and staff were asked:
What is one thing you’ve learned in our program? This can be academic, personal, emotional, social, etc. For example: CAP really helped me to learn how to redirect my anger. CAP helped me understand the difference between kinds of triangles. I’ve learned how to make better choices. I’ve really improved my spelling.

I have been working with a population at CAP that I never in a million years thought I would be working with. I have learned many things in the short year I have been here, but perhaps the most important and lasting thing I have learned from the CAP program is that sometimes there are things that are more important than a grade. I have learned tolerance for perspectives and backgrounds very different from my own. I see how each student and teacher brings something important and different to the table, from which we can all learn—Ashley Wood, teacher

One thing CAP has taught me is how to fight for what I want. I want to graduate and they keep telling me I need to show up. They help me with a lot of things and I wouldn’t be this close to graduating, if it wasn’t for them—Dylan
I read a cool book in English class—Alex
CAP taught me how to have patience and deal with others—Tyron
In a time where so many districts are turning to technology as the only alternative. I truly appreciate the fact that this district and board puts the students before the budget, by allowing them the opportunity to take face-to-face classes. This helps them to grow on a social and emotional level as well as an academic one—Bonnie Anderson, teacher
I learned that I should be in school in order to pass classes and that I need to turn my work in to pass—Anna
I went through a lot of crap at my previous school and before coming here I was nervous, but everyone here is welcoming, caring and you can very easily notice the staff care for all of their students individually and equally—Sara
One thing that stands out for me after working with our kids for many years is that no matter how grown up they act on the outside, they are still so vulnerable and scared on the inside. Watching a shy, withdrawn student grow and become more self confident is the best gift for me. When a student stops, realizes, and apologizes for swearing when they would have never done that before, reminds me that we do make a difference. Even if it is in small, baby steps, we are making a difference. Thank you so much for supporting us in our efforts—Mary Sherwood, teacher
CAP is helping me to not completely fail—Kat
CAP has helped me get better grades in my classes—Dylan
Honestly, CAP has taught me that no matter where you come from you choose the outcome to your life. It has really helped me finish my schooling and given me a new respect for teachers that I didn’t have before—Caleb

I’ve learned that alternative schools are really helpful—Tatiana
This school is more understanding that most schools—Glenn
I learned that there are people you can trust—Makayla
I’ve learned that school’s important and that if you try your best you can never fail. I fit in here and I love being here. I’ve also learned that the teachers here will help you, if you are willing to try—Chelsea
Every day I learn something new from working with our population of students. I learn to be a better human and educator. I learn to find compassion in situations that are devoid of compassion. I learn to love and teach others to love when life seems meaningless. I learn to have perspective and choose kindness in difficult and stressful situations.
